In a entertaining game of football, SA had to work hard to finally come out 20 point victors over the QAFL. Both teams played entertaining football providing a great showcase of their respective leagues.

Queensland presented most of the running in the first quarter where they dominated the clearances and were intent on moving the ball on quickly.

If not for the strong defence of SA led by the eventual Best on Ground Tarquin Brown and some wayward kicking for goals, QLD may have produced a strong lead but SA were able to hit back and take a small margin into the break, thanks to some efficient use of their chances with goals to Manuel, Milera, Kennedy and Jake Pitt.

Early second quarter goals to the Pitt brothers enabled SA to break out a handy lead, then Heath at the 16 minute mark and a red time goal from Milera along with a well structured press which limited QLD to 2 majors, SA were able to open the lead out to 15 points at the main break.

The last half was played in a steady light rain which which made the ball slippery but both side still were able to provide skillful passages of play. The highlights included a screamer from Sam Kennedy and Hayden Jolly’s seventy metre barrels from the goal square much to the delight of the local commentators.

In the third quarter QLD kicked five goals to SA’s 2.7 to close the gap to just three points at three quarter time.

The last quarter however was all SA’s, outscoring QLD five goals to two, to finally run away with a twenty point victory.
